Join us as we trace tea’s footsteps down the ancient path that connected China’s culture with that of the West. We will explore the differing tea cultures of the East and the West, discuss the historical events that brought us those cultures, and, of course, drink tea.
We plan to begin by following the history of tea from its Chinese beginnings, to the point of Eastern—Western divergence, to the current tea traditions. All along the way we will have tasting “pit stops,” allowing us to taste history as we discuss it! After experiencing a wealth of Chinese teas, we will “journey to the West” to indulge ourselves in British cream tea and explore American iced tea variations.
Please come prepared to reflect on what drinking tea means to you both personally and in terms of your culture. As we also plan to immerse ourselves in both Western and Eastern tea ceremony, we would love for everyone to bring a small dish that they typically enjoy with a cup of tea.
Additionally, our jaunt to the West involves a lesson in making British tea scones, so bring your creativity and enthusiasm.
